Wedding Traditions I Absolutely Love (and Why They Still Matter)
Weddings are evolving in so many exciting and creative ways - and I’m all for it! But, there’s something truly special about the timeless traditions that continue to show up in modern celebrations, and I don’t think they should be skipped! Whether they bring the drama, the emotion, or just a good laugh, these moments never fail to add fun and great memories to a wedding day.
As a wedding content creator, I get to witness these traditions unfold (each in their own unique and special way), and they always make for the most special and enjoyable content. Here are a few of my favourites -
The Dress Reveal
Whether it's the bride revealing her look to her bridal party, her parents, or even the groom when he sees her walking down the aisle, that moment always brings the goosebumps. The reactions are raw, emotional, and so full of love - I could never get tired of seeing the gasps, the happy tears, and the group hugs.
Champagne Popping & Mimosas
There’s just something about a glass of bubbly while getting ready that sets the tone for the day. A little pop of champagne and some giggles with your bridal crew? Yes please! It’s fun, relaxed, and makes for the most joyful candid content.
Giving Away the Bride
Whether it's a father, mother, step-parent, or someone deeply meaningful, that walk down the aisle is a moment packed with emotion. It’s tradition, yes - but it’s also a powerful symbol of love, support and two families coming together.
Flower Girls… and Flower Men!
Flower girls are a classic, adorable tradition - but the rise of “flower men” has added a rather fabulous twist! Whether it’s a little one in their beautiful big dress or a grown friend throwing petals with pride, this tradition always brings smiles.
Confetti
I’ll admit I underestimated just how wonderful confetti is until I began creating content for weddings. Now I think it’s a must! Not only does it look absolutely incredible in photos and video (hello slow-motion magic!), but there’s something so special about the way it brings everyone together. Guests gather close, cheering, laughing, and showering the couple in colour and love - it’s pure joy, and one of my favourite moments to capture.
A Sit-Down Wedding Breakfast
Nothing marks a special occasion quite like gathering around a beautifully styled table, sharing food, laughter, and love with your nearest and dearest. It allows everyone to slow down, connect, and soak in the joy of the day.
Funny Speeches
Heartfelt speeches will always have their place, but the funny ones? They set the vibe! Whether it’s a cheeky sibling, an old friend with stories, or even the couple roasting each other - laughing makes the memories that much sweeter.
A Choreographed First Dance
When couples put in the effort to surprise their guests with a choreographed routine, it’s going to be a highlight! Whether it's smooth and romantic or fun and energetic, the first dance is such a perfect expression of personality and partnership.
The Garter & Bouquet Toss
Yes, they’re a little cheeky. Yes, they’re a bit old-school. But they’re also fun, flirty, and full of energy - why would you not not embrace them? The laughter and chaos of the tosses always make for great moments!
The Father-Daughter Dance
There’s something so touching about this tradition - a quiet moment between a dad and his daughter before the dance floor gets wild. It’s often one of the most emotional parts of the evening, and I feel lucky every time I get to document it.
